Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has moved to end speculation surrounding comments made by Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle following the team’s successful Unity Cup campaign.
Nigeria retained the Unity Cup title with a dominant 3-0 victory over Jamaica in the final at The Valley in Charlton, London, on Saturday. Shortly after the match, Chelle revealed that Osimhen would not be available for Nigeria’s upcoming international friendlies against Poland and Portugal, explaining that the forward would use the period to address matters relating to his club future.
Osimhen heads into the international break after another outstanding season with Galatasaray. The striker played a key role in helping the Turkish giants retain the Super Lig title following his permanent transfer in the summer of 2025. His goals and overall performances have kept him among Europe’s most highly rated forwards and attracted interest from several elite clubs.
Chelle’s comments sparked debate among supporters and media outlets. Many questioned whether the striker’s absence was linked to concerns about his commitment to either club or country.

However, Osimhen quickly addressed the issue. The former Napoli forward revealed that he spoke directly with the Super Eagles coach to clear up the misunderstanding.
“I just got off the phone with coach Eric Chelle regarding the comments about me in his recent interview,” Osimhen wrote on Instagram.
“Unfortunately, his words have been taken out of context and blown out of proportion. He has great respect for Galatasaray, follows most of our games, and never intended to create any controversy.”
Osimhen also reaffirmed his respect for Chelle and his dedication to representing Nigeria whenever called upon.
“I appreciate the conversation, the opportunity to represent my country, and I look forward to continuing to work with him.”
“He is a great coach whom I respect a lot, and I kindly ask everyone to disregard the speculations surrounding this matter. Thank you for your consistent support.”
While Osimhen remains a central figure for both club and country, uncertainty continues to surround his future ahead of the 2026/27 season.
His impressive displays for Galatasaray have reportedly attracted interest from Chelsea, Arsenal, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain. As transfer speculation intensifies, the striker’s immediate focus appears to be maintaining his high standards while preparing for the next chapter of his career.
