Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso applauded the contribution of Nigerian winger Nathan Tella for setting up Patrik Schick’s last-minute winner in their thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Hoffenheim on Saturday.
Nathan Tella provided a delightful assist for Schick’s goal in the 91st minute, just three minutes after Robert Andrich equalized in the 88th minute. This overturned Hoffenheim’s lead established by Maximilian Beier’s 33rd-minute opener.

The win extends Leverkusen’s lead over rivals Bayern Munich to 13 points as they chase their first-ever Bundesliga title and potentially become the first-ever unbeaten champions in the league’s history.
Speaking after the match, Alonso commended his players’ determination in turning around what seemed like their first defeat of the season into a remarkable victory.
“The teamwork leading up to Patrik’s goal, involving Josip and Nathan Tella, was fantastic,” he said. “It’s crucial for the team to work together, support each other, and never give up.”
“Even when things were tough, I remained confident. The entire game can change in an instant, just like with Rob’s goal. This season, we’ve built a mentality to always fight until the final whistle.”
“I’m thrilled for the fans. Their incredible support was a huge help. We owe them a big thank you today – they played a major role in this victory.”
