Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi will miss Nigeria’s clash against DR Congo in the final of the African FIFA World Cup Qualifying Play-off Tournament on Sunday, after receiving his second caution of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

Ndidi was booked in the sixth minute of Nigeria’s 4–1 extra-time victory over Gabon in the first semifinal at the Complexe Sportif Prince Héritier Moulay Abdellah in Rabat, after halting Mario Lemina’s run.

Ndidi picked up his first yellow card of the World Cup qualifying campaign in Nigeria’s 2-0 win over Rwanda in Kigali in March.

The stand-in captain was one of Nigeria’s standout performers on the night, providing the assist for Chidera Ejuke’s goal that put the Super Eagles 3–1 up in extra time.

Despite his early booking, Ndidi played the full duration of the match (120 minutes), dictating play and linking defence with attack seamlessly.

Although head coach Eric Chelle will be disappointed to be without the Beşiktaş midfielder for Sunday’s final, he still has options in Raphael Onyedika, Frank Onyeka, Alhassan Yusuf and even Semi Ajayi to call upon.
