Nigeria’s Super Eagles will face DR Congo in the final of the African World Cup Qualifying Play-off Tournament on Sunday at the Complexe Sportif Prince Héritier Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.
The Super Eagles secured their place in the final with a hard-fought 4–1 extra-time victory over a stubborn Gabon side, while DR Congo edged Cameroon 1–0 thanks to Chancel Mbemba’s 91st-minute winner.
Both sides will meet on Sunday, November 16th, in the final of the CAF World Cup playoffs, with the winner advancing to the six-team inter-confederation playoffs scheduled for March. That round will determine the final two teams heading to next year’s World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Nigeria will be hoping to stay on course for a return to the global stage after missing the 2022 edition in Qatar, while DR Congo are chasing a first World Cup appearance since 1974.
DR Congo’s triumph over Cameroon, Africa’s most frequent World Cup representatives with eight appearances, will give the Central African side confidence heading into the final. Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will draw motivation from their own convincing 4–1 win over Gabon.
On paper, Nigeria are favourites to progress to the inter-confederation playoffs, but they will need to be at their best to overcome an unpredictable DR Congo side.
Both teams will resume training on Friday as preparations intensify for Sunday’s decisive clash, while Gabon and Cameroon bow out of the qualification race.
