Lesotho head coach Leslie Notši is confident his side can secure a positive result against Nigeria’s Super Eagles when both countries meet in their penultimate 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, South Africa.
Both teams sit on 11 points each, three points behind group leaders Benin and South Africa. A win in today’s encounter could significantly boost their chances of advancing to next year’s World Cup.
In the reverse fixture in Uyo, Lesotho held Nigeria to a 1-1 draw and will be aiming to go one better this time by taking all three points and leapfrogging the Super Eagles on the table.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Notši confirmed that his squad has no injury concerns, with all players fit and available for selection. He, however, acknowledged the challenge of facing one of Africa’s football powerhouses.
“Fortunately, we don’t have any serious injuries coming into this fixture. It’s a clean bill of health for us,” Notši said.
“This is a tough match against one of the best teams on the continent, a team with some of Africa’s finest players competing in Europe’s top leagues.”

Despite admitting the difficulty of the task, the Crocodiles’ boss believes their recent history with Nigeria will serve as motivation.
“We know it’s not going to be easy, but the self-belief we carried from our previous encounter gives us confidence. We believe we have an opportunity to continue from where we left off in November 2023.
“It has given us hope to redeem ourselves in these last two fixtures and secure points that can place Lesotho in a stronger position.”
