Sekhoane Moerane: Lesotho not scared of Super Eagles

Lesotho captain Sekhoane Moerane has declared that the Crocodiles are not intimidated by Nigeria’s Super Eagles and will be going all out for maximum points when both nations meet in their penultimate 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Both teams are level on 11 points, three adrift of group leaders Benin and South Africa, and remain in with a slim chance of topping Group C. That possibility, however, depends not only on securing a positive result today but also on their rivals dropping points.

For Lesotho, a win could set up a historic opportunity to qualify for their first-ever FIFA World Cup finals. A draw or defeat, on the other hand, would all but end their hopes.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Moerane insisted that the Crocodiles will not be overawed by Nigeria’s reputation as one of Africa’s strongest footballing nations. He also stressed that his team will play for national pride rather than to favour any other side in the group.

“Going into the game, we are not going to show fear. One thing we must do is not fear our opponents, but we should give them respect,” Moerane said.

“We will approach the match with respect, but without fear. That simply means we are going to give our best with what we have.

“We are not doing anyone a favour, we are playing for our country, playing for Basotho.”
