Former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong opened his goal account for Al-Ahli as they secured an emphatic 4-1 comeback victory over Al-Gharafa in their Qatar Stars League clash on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old defender, who joined the club in January from Saudi Pro League outfit Al Kholood, played a decisive role in ending his new side’s six-game winless run in the league.
Al-Gharafa took the lead in the 28th minute through Yacine Brahimi, who converted from the penalty spot after a VAR review confirmed the decision. The goal handed the hosts an advantage heading into the break.
However, Al-Ahli returned from halftime with renewed intensity and quickly restored parity. Just seconds into the second half, Younes Abdelrahman found the net with a brilliant left-footed effort to level the score.
Troost-Ekong then put the visitors ahead in the 59th minute, reacting quickest after a corner to slot home from close range and complete the turnaround.

Al-Ahli sealed the result late on, with Michel Vlap converting from the penalty spot in the 87th minute before Abdelrahman grabbed his second goal deep into stoppage time to cap a clinical second-half display.
The victory lifts Al-Ahli off the bottom of the table to 10th place, with 19 points from 19 matches. Meanwhile, Al-Gharafa remain third on 34 points, missing the opportunity to close the gap on leaders Al-Sadd, who sit on 38 points.
Al-Ahli will look to build on the momentum when they face Al-Sailiya on April 3, while Al-Gharafa travel to take on Al-Duhail the following day.
