Qatar Stars League side Al Ahli SC have officially announced the signing of former Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong from Saudi Pro League club Al Kholood, Bold Sports reports.
The club confirmed the deal on Tuesday via their Instagram page, welcoming the experienced defender with the message: “He’s here, he’s ready, welcome to the club William. Let’s make history together.”
The 32-year-old Nigerian centre-back has signed a contract that will keep him at Al Ahli until June 2028, bringing an end to his one-and-a-half-year spell in Saudi Arabia. Troost-Ekong joins the Qatari outfit after an influential period at Al Kholood, where he made 49 appearances and served as team captain.

At Al Kholood, Troost-Ekong was a key figure in the club’s push to remain in the Saudi Pro League, offering leadership and defensive stability. His performances and experience made him one of the standout players in the squad.
Al Ahli have confirmed that the Nigerian defender will wear the number 5 jersey as he begins a new chapter in Qatar. The club currently sit ninth in the Qatar Stars League standings with 15 points, four points clear of the relegation zone, and will be hoping Troost-Ekong’s arrival strengthens their push for a higher finish this season.
Troost-Ekong brings a wealth of experience from spells across Europe and the Middle East, having played in the Netherlands, Belgium, Norway, Turkey, Italy, England, Greece and Saudi Arabia. His signing represents a significant boost for Al Ahli as they look to build momentum in the second half of the season.
