Tolu Arokodare will be aiming to open his Premier League account for Wolves and inspire them to their first win of the season when they visit Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The Nigerian striker, who joined the Old Gold on transfer deadline day, got off the mark for his new club in midweek, scoring a delightful chip in Wolves’ 2-0 Carabao Cup victory over Everton. His clever finish past the onrushing goalkeeper will no doubt boost his confidence ahead of the clash with Spurs.
However, Arokodare faces a stern test against one of the league’s most resilient defences, led by the pace of Micky van de Ven and the steel of captain Cristian Romero.
Wolves remain rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table after losing all five matches this season, with just three goals scored and 14 conceded. Arokodare has featured twice in the league but is yet to find the net. Saturday’s game presents a chance for him to build on his midweek goal and provide the spark Wolves desperately need.
Manager Vítor Pereira was full of praise for Arokodare’s finish against Everton, while also stressing the importance of improving the striker’s physical condition to cope with the Premier League’s demands.
“Arokodare scored a beautiful goal and showed real quality in his finishing,” Pereira said in his pre-match press conference.

“He is getting closer to full fitness. When he arrived, we pushed him to play almost 90 minutes in his first games because we lacked alternatives. But we know he needs to reach the level where he can sustain that intensity for a full game in this league.”
With Wolves desperate for points and Arokodare growing in confidence, all eyes will be on Molineux to see if the Nigerian can deliver when it matters most.
