Nigeria’s 100m hurdles world record holder, Tobi Amusan, has revealed that she will be making a “huge announcement” to her fans tomorrow (Tuesday).
Amusan shared the news via her social media accounts on Monday but kept the details of the announcement under wraps. She hinted at having difficulty finding the right words to express her thoughts, with a lot on her mind.
“So much on my mind, so much to share. But finding the right words isn’t always easy. Here’s to those who have stuck with me through thick and thin. Huge announcement on #October1st #NigeriaIndependenceDay,” Amusan wrote on her X (formerly known as Twitter) account.
The announcement is expected to be made at 10 a.m. Nigerian time tomorrow.
Amusan, who broke the 100m hurdles world record with a time of 12.12s at the 2021 World Championships in Eugene, USA, has faced challenges in recent months. She had a disappointing end to her season after failing to qualify for the final at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Her journey has been turbulent since her world-record feat. In July 2023, Amusan was provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for allegedly missing three whereabouts tests, leading to a doping violation charge. Although she maintained her innocence throughout, Amusan was ultimately cleared of any wrongdoing by both the AIU Disciplinary Tribunal and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
