Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi and Jérémie Boga have been placed on sick leave after they were attacked by a section of Nice supporters following the club’s 3–1 loss to Lorient on Sunday, a defeat that extended their losing streak to six games across all competitions, Bold Sports reports.
Nice had taken an early lead through an Arthur Avom own-goal in the 12th minute, but Lorient hit back before the break as Laurent Abergel levelled in the 31st minute, and Sambou Soumano put the hosts ahead on the cusp of halftime.
Lorient then extended their lead when Soumano struck again in the 53rd minute, sealing their third league win of the season and ending their seven-game winless run.
According to French journalists Fabrice Hawkins and Maxime Tilliette, the mood among Nice fans boiled over after the defeat. Players were reportedly warned on their way back from the airport that a hostile reception awaited them at the training centre.
Around 400 supporters gathered at the facility, with some described as intoxicated. Two ultras boarded the team bus to confront the squad, delivering their grievances in a heated and insulting manner.
Players initially refused to disembark due to the tension but eventually stepped off the bus, at which point the situation escalated. Some individuals were targeted, including Jérémie Boga and Moffi.
Both players were reportedly spat on, punched, kicked, and subjected to verbal abuse, including racist insults. Nice fans were said to be angry with Boga over ticket issues involving friends from Marseille, while Moffi was criticised for being seen joking with former Lorient president Loïc Féry after the game.

Security personnel were overwhelmed as chaos unfolded. Nice goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf was able to help Boga break free from the attackers, while Moffi and others struggled to escape the hostility.
Moffi was examined by a doctor on Monday and placed on sick leave until Sunday due to the physical and psychological impact of the assault. Boga received a medical certificate confirming at least five days of incapacity for work.
The club’s hierarchy held crisis meetings on Monday but has opted not to comment publicly pending the official police report. Also, on Monday evening, Fabrice Hawkins reported on his official X (Twitter) page that Moffi and Boga have filed a complaint regarding the sad incident.
