Werder Bremen head coach Horst Steffen has expressed confidence that Nigerian striker Victor Boniface can rediscover his best form, insisting that a single goal may be all he needs to spark a turnaround, Bold Sports reports.

Boniface, who joined Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, is still searching for his first goal for the club. The 24-year-old featured as a second-half substitute in Saturday’s 1–1 draw against Köln, marking his 10th appearance without scoring.

His struggles were evident once more at the Weserstadion on Saturday, where sections of the home crowd grew frustrated, with some fans reportedly whistling during his spell on the pitch.

Steffen, however, refused to single out the forward for criticism when questioned after the match: “We don’t need to constantly evaluate individual players,” he told Deichstube.

The coach did offer a note of encouragement, suggesting that a breakthrough moment could shift the striker’s fortunes: “Maybe a goal will help him become even stronger,” Steffen added.

Bremen had looked on course for all three points after captain Marco Friedl opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, but Köln snatched a dramatic equaliser through Said El Mala in the 91st minute to deny the hosts a much-needed victory.

The draw left Bremen ninth in the Bundesliga table with a balanced record of four wins, four draws and four losses. As the team prepare for Sunday’s clash against Hamburger, Boniface will be eager to end his barren run and record his first goal for the club.
