The Super Eagles will battle the Zimbabwe national football team today in the opening semi-final of the 2026 Unity Cup in London.

‎Nigeria head into this year’s Unity Cup as defending champions after lifting the previous edition in London. The Super Eagles defeated Jamaica national football team on penalties following a 2-2 draw in the final.

‎Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle heads into the encounter with confidence after completing final preparations with his squad on Monday evening at The Valley.

‎The Super Eagles trained with 20 players ahead of the clash, including Terem Moffi, Philip Otele and Rafiu Durosinmi. Moffi returns to the national team after missing recent international fixtures, while Otele enjoyed regular minutes for his club during the closing stages of the season.

‎Nigeria and Zimbabwe shared 1-1 draws in both meetings during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers earlier this year. The Warriors first held the Super Eagles in Rwanda before earning another draw in Uyo.

‎Those results have increased expectations ahead of today’s encounter, with both teams looking to secure a place in the Unity Cup final.

‎Chelle has consistently stated his ambition to build a winning mentality with Nigeria despite difficult moments earlier in his coaching career, including defeat in the 2025 AFCON semi-final against Morocco.

‎Today’s winner will progress to the final of the invitational tournament against either Jamaica national football team or India national football team.
