AS Roma are reportedly eyeing 28-year-old Nigerian international Ola Aina as they look to solve their right-back problems in the January transfer window.
The Italian side is currently struggling with limited options on the right flank due to injuries and form issues among their current players.
Rick Karsdorp, Rasmus Kristensen, and Zeki Celik have all been considered for the role, but with injuries to Karsdorp and Kristensen, Celik remains the only fit option, raising concerns for coach Ivan Juric. The recent injury to Alexis Saelemaekers has further compounded Roma’s difficulties on that side of the pitch.
According to Forza Roma, Aina, who currently plays for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League, has emerged as a strong candidate to fill the gap. He previously worked with Juric during his time at Torino, where he made 112 appearances for the club.
The versatile defender, known for his speed and aggression, is comfortable playing on both wings, a key trait in Juric’s preferred 3-5-2 formation.
Aina’s contract with Nottingham Forest expires in June 2024, making him an attractive option for Roma as they seek reinforcements.
The club had previously explored moves for Almeria’s Pubill and Rennes’ Lorenz Assignon, but both deals fell through.
With January approaching, Roma’s sporting director is expected to ramp up efforts to bring Aina to Italy, offering the Nigerian the chance to return to Serie A and provide much-needed stability to the club’s defensive setup.
