Nigeria’s Edo Queens will discover their group-stage opponents today as the official draw for the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League takes place at the Complex Mohamed VI in Salé, Morocco.
The draw is set for 12:00 p.m. local time (11:00 a.m. GMT) and will be streamed live on CAF’s digital platforms, including YouTube.
The tournament, scheduled for November 9-23, 2024, will see Edo Queens, one of five debutants, compete for a top prize of $400,000. Alongside Edo Queens, Senegal’s Aigles de la Medina, South Africa’s University of the Western Cape, Egypt’s Tutankhamun, and Ethiopia’s CBE FC will make their first appearance in the competition.
They will be up against experienced sides like two-time champions Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), 2022 champions and hosts ASFAR (Morocco), and TP Mazembe (DR Congo), who are returning after missing last year’s edition in Côte d’Ivoire.
The CAF Women’s Champions League has become a vital platform for the growth of women’s football in Africa, with Morocco successfully hosting previous editions. Edo Queens, representing Nigeria in their maiden outing, will look to make a strong statement in this prestigious competition.
Adding a special touch to the draw, Fatiha Laasiri, a former ASFAR player and current U-23 Morocco Women’s National Team member, will serve as the draw assistant. Laasiri has been a trailblazer in Moroccan women’s football, inspiring countless young female footballers across the continent.
