Nigerian midfielder Peter Agba marked his 50th appearance for Slovenian club Olimpija Ljubljana by scoring his first-ever goal, contributing to their 2-0 away victory over HJK in a UEFA Conference League encounter on Thursday.
The victory is the second of the campaign for Olympija leaving them with six points from four games and placing them in the Knockout phase play-offs spot.
Olimpija’s coach, Victor Sanchez, opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation, placing Agba alongside Diogo Pinto in a defensive midfield role to anchor the team and manage the tempo against a well-organized HJK side.
The deadlock was broken in the 57th minute when Marko Brest received a pass from Justas Lasickas, striking a powerful shot from outside the box into the top right corner. Ten minutes later, Brest turned provider, setting up Agba, who calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left corner, extending the lead to 2-0 for the visitors.
Beyond his goal, the 21-year-old Nigerian midfielder controlled the midfield with authority, completing 38 out of 41 passes, winning 50% of his ground duels and tackles, and dominating aerially with a 100% win rate.
Looking ahead, coach Victor Sanchez hopes Agba’s strong form will continue as Olimpija prepares to host their rivals, Maribor, in a top-of-the-table Slovenian league clash on Sunday, November 10. Their next UEFA Conference League fixture will see them host Larne FC.
