Despite stealing the spotlight with two brilliant goals that propelled Galatasaray to a 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in their Europa League clash, Victor Osimhen’s focus remained on teammate Mauro Icardi, who left the field with an injury.
Osimhen’s brace and Yunus Akgun’s early strike gave Galatasaray a win against their toughest opposition so far in the competition. While Osimhen was taken off in the 80th minute, his strike partner Mauro Icardi was taken off five minutes later, a concern for the Nigeria international.
“I would also like to thank our fans who supported us from the first moment to the last. Of course, the two goals were important for me. On the other hand, I hope Mauro’s injury is not serious,” Osimhen said while speaking to the press after the victory.
The Super Eagles star also emphasized the difficulty of the game. “Tottenham was a very difficult opponent. We made our preparations accordingly. I want to congratulate my team,” he said.
“This victory was important for us,” Osimhen continued. “It was important for us to win against Tottenham, who played well and fought until the last moment. We need to continue our momentum.”
Looking ahead, Osimhen stressed the importance of staying focused on upcoming games, adding, “We need to think about each match individually. Right now, we will focus on our league match. There will be an international break. We will make our preparations. We will care about every opponent. We will show our quality and fight for each other. We will fight for victory every time.”
