Udinese boss Kosta Runjaić has heaped praise on goalkeeper Maduka Okoye for his stellar performance in their 1-1 draw against Bologna on the opening day of the 2024/25 Serie A season.
The Super Eagles shot-stopper produced five saves, including a crucial penalty stop from Florian Thauvin in the 68th minute. While Bologna managed to equalize from the subsequent corner, Runjaić emphasized Okoye’s heroics in keeping his side in the game.

Despite not achieving the desired result, the manager was full of admiration for Okoye’s contribution.
“I’m happy. First game and a point against a strong opponent we expected a difficult game. We couldn’t play the way we wanted. In the first half we conceded too many transitions due to our mistakes. We believed until the end and we had a bit of luck but we never gave up,” Runjaić told the media after the win.
“The first game is always difficult. We are trying to play more offensively and keep the defensive line higher. Serie A is a very physical championship and we needed physicality against this equally physical Bologna.
“Okoye had a great game, he played fantastically and he is an exceptional guy. Every point is very important.”
