Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has shattered the record books with his big-money move to Turkish giants Galatasaray which was announced on Thursday evening, Bold Sports reports.

The 26-year-old has become the most expensive signing in the history of the Turkish Super Lig, the second most expensive departure in Napoli’s history, and the second most expensive transfer involving a Nigerian footballer.

Osimhen’s €75 million move to Galatasaray puts him at the top of the Super Lig’s all-time most expensive signings. He overtakes Youssef En-Nesyri, who joined Fenerbahçe for €19.5 million, and Gabriel Sara who also joined Galatasaray for €18 million.

The rest of the top 10 includes legendary names and marquee arrivals: Mario Jardel (Galatasaray, €17m), Nicolò Zaniolo (Galatasaray, €15m), Cengiz Ünder (Fenerbahçe, €15m), Dani Güiza (Fenerbahçe, €14m), Emmanuel Emenike (Fenerbahçe, €13m), Bruma (Galatasaray, €13m), and Mbaye Diagne (Galatasaray, €13m).

Meanwhile, Osimhen’s transfer also ranks as the second-most expensive outgoing deal in Napoli’s history. Only Gonzalo Higuaín’s €90 million move to Juventus in 2016 surpasses it.

Trailing Osimhen are Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (PSG, €70m), Edinson Cavani (PSG, €64.5m), Jorginho (Chelsea, €57m), Kim Min-jae (Bayern, €50m), Kalidou Koulibaly (Chelsea, €41.9m), Ezequiel Lavezzi (PSG, €30m), Allan (Everton, €24.6m), and Eljif Elmas (RB Leipzig, €24m).

For Nigerian players, Osimhen now features twice at the top of the list of the most expensive transfers of all time. His 2020 move from Lille to Napoli for €78.9 million still leads the pack, but his latest €75 million deal slots in at number two.

Behind him are Alex Iwobi’s €30.4 million move from Arsenal to Everton, Kelechi Iheanacho’s €27.7 million transfer to Leicester City, another Iwobi transfer — this time to Fulham for €25.7 million — and Odion Ighalo’s €23.3 million switch to Changchun Yatai in China.

Others in the top 10 include Nathan Tella (Bayer Leverkusen, €23.3m), Calvin Bassey (Ajax, €23m), Victor Boniface (Leverkusen, €22.6m), and Terem Moffi (Nice, €22.5m).

The full transfer package of Osimhen’s deal includes a €75 million fee paid to Napoli and a 10% sell-on clause in favor of the Italian side. A clause also prevents the Nigerian striker from joining any Serie A club within the next two years.

With the record-breaking move, Galatasaray have not only secured one of the most prolific strikers in Europe but also made a bold statement about their ambitions for domestic dominance and continental success.
