Team Nigeria returns to action in three events today as the Paris 2024 Olympics continues. The country will be involved in three events on Sunday, July 28, 2024.
BOXING: Adan Olaore vs. Aibek Oralbay (men’s 92kg heavyweight). Time: 10:48 a.m. Nigerian time
Nigeria’s Olaitan Adan Olaore will be looking to earn his first-ever victory at the Olympics when he takes on Kazakhstan’s Aibek Oralbay in the men’s 92kg heavyweight division at the North Paris Arena on Sunday.
Olaore has been in fine form leading up to the Olympics, recording seven straight wins in his last amateur fights. He is one of two Nigerian boxers to qualify for the Games.
FOOTBALL: Super Falcons vs. Spain. Time: 7 p.m.
After a disappointing 1-0 loss to Brazil in their opening game, Nigeria’s Super Falcons will face a tougher test on Sunday when they line up against World champions Spain.
Spain is currently at the top of Group C after their 2-1 win over Japan on the opening day, while Nigeria sits at the bottom of the table on goal difference.
A loss for Nigeria against Spain will mean they must beat Japan in their final group game to qualify as one of the two best third-place finishers.
The Falcons will be wary of top stars representing Spain, including World Footballer of the Year Aitana Bonmatí and players such as Alexia Putellas, Jennifer Hermoso, and Lucía García.
The game will be played at the historic Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes, the same venue where the Super Eagles secured a memorable 3-2 win over Spain at the 1998 World Cup.
TABLE TENNIS: Offiong Edem vs. Bruna Takahashi (women’s singles). Time: 9 p.m. Nigerian time
Nigeria women’s table tennis superstar Offiong Edem will take on Brazil’s Bruna Takahashi in the women’s singles Round of 64 at the South Paris Arena.
Offiong, who is attending her 5th Olympic Games, will be hoping to become the first Nigerian to win a table tennis match in Paris after the men’s disappointing performance in their singles matches on Saturday, where both Quadri Aruna and Olajide Omotayo crashed out.
