Nigerian boxer, Olaitan Adam Olaore, was eliminated from the men’s 92kg heavyweight division at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics on Sunday.
Olaore suffered a unanimous 5-0 defeat at the hands of Kazakhstan’s Aibek Oralbay, failing to advance to the round of 16.
Despite displaying heart and determination, the 22-year-old Nigerian was outclassed by the more experienced Oralbay. The Kazakhstani dominated the bout, landing a powerful blow that sent Olaore to the canvas in the first round.
Olaore’s chances of a comeback were further hindered by a point deduction for holding and failing to maintain an upright posture.
While he showed improved aggression in the third round, it was too little too late as Oralbay comfortably secured a 5-0 victory on all judges’ scorecards.
