Moses Simon’s goal and assist couldn’t prevent Nantes from suffering their fifth Ligue 1 loss of the season. The Canaries fell 3-2 to RC Lens at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Saturday as the Canaries’ recent struggles continued.
The match began with Lens taking the lead through a 21st-minute penalty converted by Przemyslaw Frankowski. However, Nantes responded quickly, with Simon equalizing from the spot after Lens’ Facundo Medina’s foul on Nicolas Cozza inside the penalty area.
Simon then turned provider, setting up Cozza for the go-ahead goal in the 71st minute. However, Nantes’s lead was short-lived as Hamzat Ojediran equalized for Lens in the 86th minute. The goal was the first for the Nigerian striker who joined the French side in the summer from Hungarian side Debreceni Vasutas.
The drama continued until the final whistle, with Adrien Thomasson’s 90th-minute header securing a dramatic victory for Lens breaking the hearts of the Nantes faithfuls and players.
This defeat marked Nantes’s second consecutive loss and their fifth overall this season. They have dropped to 14th in the league table while the victory takes Lens to fifth on the log.
Despite their recent struggles, Simon has been a standout performer for Nantes, contributing three goals and four assists in 10 Ligue 1 matches.
