George Ilenikhena sealed the win for Monaco, scoring as they came back from 1-0 down to defeat Strasbourg 3-1 in a thrilling Ligue 1 encounter at Stade de la Meinau.
Monaco coach, Adolt Hutter opted to start the experienced Breel Embolo as the lone striker, however, with Monaco down by halftime, he decided to introduce Christian Mawissa and George Ilenikhena into the game.
The decision paid off as Monaco increased their tempo and eventually got rewarded with a penalty in the 79th minute which was calmly placed to the right-hand corner by Eliesse Ben Seghir.
10 minutes after the equaliser, Maghnes Akliouche combined with Ben Seghir to give Monaco the lead. George Ilenikhena then scored with a right footed shot from outside the box to seal the comeback for Monaco.
The win takes Monaco up to second in the Ligue 1 table, three points above three placed Marseille. Ilenikhena’s goal was his second of the season after he also came on from the bench to win the game against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.
Adolf Hutter will hope Ilenikhena keeps this form as Monaco hosts Brest at Stade Louis II on Friday, November 22.
