Maktown Flyers suffered their first defeat of the 2026 Basketball Africa League, falling 97–72 to Morocco’s FUS Rabat in their second Sahara Conference outing.

Buoyed by their impressive debut victory over JCA Kings of Ivory Coast (76–68) on Saturday, the Nigerian side came into the clash aiming to build momentum. However, they faced a formidable FUS Rabat team backed by a strong home crowd.

Despite their determination, the tournament debutants struggled to match the hosts’ intensity and fluid offensive play. FUS Rabat dominated all four quarters, taking them 23–19 and 23–16 in the first half, before sealing the contest with 25–21 and 26–16 runs in the second half to secure a commanding 25-point win.

Scoring proved a challenge for Maktown, though three players reached double figures. Tyrell Corbin and Ogbodeje Abah led the team with 13 points each, while Hassan Drame added 11. Peter Olisemeka delivered an all-round performance with 10 points, a game-high 14 rebounds, and a joint game-high four steals.

For FUS Rabat, Harouna Amadou Abdoulaye led all scorers with 26 points and four steals. Former Rivers Hoopers guard Will Perry earned Most Valuable Player honours with an outstanding display of 24 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, and three steals. Ayoub Nouhi contributed 17 points and four assists, while Kuany Atem Kuany chipped in with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Maktown Flyers will look to bounce back when they face Senegal’s ASC Ville de Dakar on Wednesday, April 29, as their opponents continue their search for a first win in the competition.
