Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho is hoping to remain at Celtic for the 2026/27 season, with reports from Footballinsider247 indicating that the Nigerian international wants a new deal at Parkhead despite attracting interest from several clubs, including teams in Turkey.
The 29-year-old became a free agent after Celtic’s option to automatically extend his contract expired. While his future remains unresolved, Iheanacho is reportedly giving priority to staying with the Scottish champions if the club offers him a fresh agreement.
Although injuries restricted Iheanacho to just four Scottish Premiership starts, he still produced decisive moments during Celtic’s successful campaign. He scored five Premiership goals, including dramatic late winners against Hibernian and Motherwell after the league split.
The Nigerian also found the net in Celtic’s Scottish FA Cup final victory over Dunfermline, helping the club complete a domestic league and cup double. His ability to influence crucial matches earned him strong support from the Celtic fanbase despite his limited appearances.

Iheanacho reportedly enjoyed his first season at Celtic and feels comfortable at the club. However, he remains in limbo as he waits to discover whether the Scottish champions will return with a new contract offer.
The former Manchester City and Leicester City forward is understood to be willing to continue his career at Parkhead, where manager Martin O’Neill relied on him to deliver in key moments during the closing stages of last season.
Celtic are not the only club interested in the experienced striker. Several Turkish Super Lig sides are reportedly monitoring Iheanacho’s situation following the expiry of his contract, with reports suggesting he already has offers available should he decide to leave Scotland.
His experience at club and international level makes him an attractive option in the transfer market, even after an injury-disrupted campaign.
For now, Iheanacho’s preferred destination remains Celtic. The final decision now rests with the Scottish champions, who must decide whether to offer the Super Eagles forward a new contract or allow him to pursue opportunities elsewhere before the new season begins.
