Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has dismissed injury concerns after Fulham’s 2-0 defeat to Everton on Saturday, assuring fans that he is fine despite picking up a knock during the game, Bold Sports reports.

The Nigerian international was involved in physical duels with Thierno Barry at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and managed to keep the Everton striker quiet throughout the contest. However, goals from Idrissa Gueye and Michael Keane handed Marco Silva’s side their sixth Premier League defeat of the season.

Bassey’s knock briefly raised concerns for both Fulham and the Nigerian national team ahead of the upcoming international break, but the 25-year-old confirmed that it was nothing serious.

“This game we knew it was gonna be a fight. Beto, Barry, they’re fighters, they make life difficult for you so we were prepared. I got a little knock but I’m fine,” Bassey told SportyTV after the match.

Reflecting on Fulham’s performance, the defender admitted that the team must improve defensively, particularly in set-piece situations where they have been vulnerable this season.

“We could have been a little bit more dynamic in the first half. We had control then we lost control. We’ve got to do better at set-pieces. We’ve conceded 16 goals, 10 of them have been from personal errors or set-pieces, we got to do better,” he said.

Bassey also welcomed the upcoming international break, noting that it would allow players to reset before returning to Premier League action.

“It gives everyone a chance to breathe a bit before we get on and get back in the Premier League,” he added.

The former Ajax and Rangers defender will now turn his attention to national duty as the Super Eagles prepare to face Gabon on Thursday in a crucial CAF World Cup playoff clash. A win would see Nigeria advance to the final qualifying round, where they would face either Cameroon or DR Congo.
