The Super Eagles have risen to 36th position in the latest FIFA World Rankings released on Thursday, Bold Sports reports.
This marks a three-place jump from their previous ranking of 39th last month.
During the ranking period, the Super Eagles played only one match, defeating Libya 1-0 in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. The scheduled second leg against Libya was boycotted by the Nigerian team after being stranded at the airport for over 20 hours in Libya.
World champions Argentina retained their position at the top, followed by France, Spain, England, Brazil, and Belgium in second through sixth, respectively.
Portugal and the Netherlands swapped places, with Portugal moving up from eighth to seventh. Italy and Colombia also exchanged positions, with Italy climbing to ninth and Colombia dropping to 10th.
In Africa, Morocco continue to lead, moving up from 14th to 13th globally. Senegal, ranked second in Africa, also improved, rising from 21st to 20th in the world.
Egypt, now third in Africa, moved up from 31st to 30th globally, while Nigeria, with their latest rise, are now ranked fourth on the continent. Algeria, who rose from 41st to 37th in the world, are now fifth in Africa. Ivory Coast, once ranked fourth in Africa and 33rd in the world, fell to 40th.
Other African teams making significant progress include Equatorial Guinea (88th, up six places), Zimbabwe (117th, up seven), The Gambia (128th, up seven), and Botswana (140th, up seven), with Botswana posting the biggest jump in terms of points gained (38.30).
Additionally, Comoros (108th) and Sudan (110th) saw the largest climb in rankings, both moving up 10 places. Comoros, after beating Tunisia, and Sudan, after overcoming Ghana, achieved these gains during their recent 2025 AFCON qualifiers. Comoros continues to enjoy its highest-ever position in the FIFA World Rankings.
