Nigerian quarter-miler Ella Onojuvwevwo secured a bronze medal in the women’s 400 metres at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships held in Fayetteville.
Onojuvwevwo finished second in her section with a time of 50.76 seconds in the timed final, a result that placed her third overall behind the winners of the two sections to claim the bronze medal.
The Nigerian star had already made headlines earlier in the competition during the qualifying round, where she produced a stunning 50.28 seconds to set a new African indoor record in the event.

Despite it being only her second 400m race of the season, Onojuvwevwo showed impressive form and composure to remain among the top performers in the field and secure a podium finish at the prestigious collegiate championships.
Her performance continues Nigeria’s strong showing in the competition and further highlights the country’s growing presence in collegiate athletics in the United States.
With the African record and an NCAA bronze medal to her name, Onojuvwevwo’s early-season performances suggest she could be a major contender in the 400 metres as the year progresses.
