Nigeria’s D’Tigers have been eliminated from the ongoing FIBA Afrobasket 2025 after suffering a 91-75 defeat to Senegal in the quarterfinals at the Pavilhão Multiusos de Luanda, Angola.

Both teams started strongly, trading baskets early on, with Nigeria edging their West African rivals by a single point at the end of the first quarter, 28-27.

Senegal came out firing in the second quarter, opening with a 6-0 run as Jean-Jacques Boissy and Amar Sylla hit back-to-back three-pointers. From there, they never looked back, outscoring Nigeria 30-18 in the period to take a comfortable 53-42 lead into halftime.

Guards Jean-Jacques Boissy and Brancou Badio dominated the first half, scoring 17 and 14 points respectively. Boissy was particularly impressive from beyond the arc, converting five of his seven three-point attempts.

Senegal maintained their dominance in the third quarter, outscoring Nigeria 23-13. Although D’Tigers fought back in the fourth quarter with a 20-15 edge, it was too little, too late as the damage had already been done in the middle periods.

Four Nigerian players finished in double figures. Ike Nwamu led the way with 15 points, followed by Stan Okoye with 14, while Caleb Agada and Martins Igbanu added 12 points each.

Despite having just three players score in double digits, Senegal did enough to secure the win. Brancou Badio was outstanding, pouring in a game-high 32 points, while Jean-Jacques Boissy contributed 21 and Moustapha Diop added 14.

Senegal will now face Mali in an all-West African semifinal, with the winner set to meet either Angola or Egypt in the final.
