Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu remains without a goal this season. Trabzonspor coach Fatih Tekke has now urged patience with the Nigerian forward after the club’s 2-1 win over İstanbul Başakşehir in the Turkish Süper Lig.

‎Onuachu started the match but could not find the net. He has also failed to score in Trabzonspor’s other recent competitive appearances. His wait comes after a prolific 2025/26 campaign, when he scored 26 goals across all competitions.

‎Tekke believes Onuachu deserves more time before fans judge his performances. The Trabzonspor boss highlighted the striker’s contribution to the team last season.

‎“If we are talking about the Europa League today, Paul scored 26 goals for us. Don’t we see something wrong with that?” Tekke said.

‎The coach also stressed the need to understand what players face away from matchdays.

‎“Let’s be patient with Paul too. Even if he plays badly for two games, he’s showing this performance after only three training sessions,” he said.

‎“Three training sessions. Nobody knows what happens in those.

‎“The player who goes out there is not a robot. These people have emotions; they have problems,” the Trabzonspor coach outlined.

‎Despite his lack of goals, Onuachu has remained involved in dangerous situations. He came close against Ferencvaros in the Europa League play-off first leg. His second-half header struck the post.

‎The Nigerian also found opportunities against Başakşehir. However, he could not convert them into a goal.

‎Tekke also noticed an improvement in another part of his game.

‎“I said it last year as well; sometimes he was making very simple ball losses. When that happened less in the last game, it was much better for Paul,” Tekke explained.

‎The Trabzonspor coach remains confident that Onuachu will soon rediscover his scoring touch.

‎“He will start scoring. Did he score? He will start scoring; he is going to.

‎“But Paul, I mean, doesn’t this boy deserve applause? Therefore, our situation is good,” he said.

‎Onuachu has already shown his scoring ability at Trabzonspor. He finished last season as the Turkish Süper Lig’s joint top scorer with 22 league goals.

‎The striker will now look to repay Tekke’s faith with goals as Trabzonspor continue their campaign.
