Former Super Eagles midfielder Seyi Olofinjana has been appointed by Premier League giants Chelsea into a talent management role covering Africa.
Seyi Olofinjana, a 44-year-old with 56 caps for Nigeria, brings a wealth of experience as a player (Premier League spells with Wolves, Stoke City, and Hull City) and administrator (coaching roles at Wolves, Sporting Director at Grasshoppers Zurich).
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers man will lead Chelsea’s African talent identification efforts, working alongside a newly appointed scout. He’ll leverage his connections on the continent to build a stronger pipeline of players for Chelsea and their French sister club, Strasbourg.
Olofinjana’s role goes beyond scouting. He’ll also work with recruited players to ease their transition and adaptation to a new environment.
Chelsea has a history of success with African players like Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, Salomon Kalou and Mikel Obi. Olofinjana’s appointment signifies a shift towards securing talent at a younger age.
Olofinjana, who started his career in Nigeria, is passionate about promoting African talent. He currently runs Imperial FC’s academy and has identified talents like Taiwo Awoniyi (now at Nottingham Forest).
