Birmingham City are reportedly in discussions to sign Nigerian striker Chuba Akpom as they step up efforts to bolster their attack ahead of the 2025–26 campaign, according to Scottish journalist Anthony Joseph, Bold Sports reports.
The Championship club are aiming to secure a season-long loan move for the striker, which would include an obligation to buy should they earn promotion to the Premier League.
Akpom is currently on the books of Dutch giants Ajax but spent the second half of last season on loan at French Ligue 1 outfit Lille, where he made 16 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

The former Arsenal academy graduate is no stranger to English football, having previously featured across various tiers. After emerging from Hale End, he went on loan to League One sides Brentford and Coventry City before stepping up to the Championship with Nottingham Forest during the 2014–15 season. He later had spells with Hull City and Brighton.
Akpom’s most notable run in England came during his time at Middlesbrough, where he netted 34 goals and provided four assists in 82 appearances before making the switch to Ajax.
Should Birmingham City secure his signature, the 29-year-old would link up with fellow Nigerian Bright Osayi-Samuel, who joined the Blues earlier this summer following a four-year stint at Turkish club Fenerbahçe.
The Midlands side are looking to strengthen their squad with proven quality as they target a return to the Premier League for the first time since their relegation in 2011.
