Gafar Badmus and Miracle Sonny stole the spotlight in the Junior (U-20) 400m on Day 2 of the MTN CHAMPS Benin Athletics Classics, delivering standout performances at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and UNIBEN Sports Complex on Friday, March 14.
Badmus, who had already dominated his heat, stormed to victory in the final with a personal best of 46.50s. Eniola Shiro followed in 47.18s, also a lifetime best, while David Akhalu edged Team MTN’s Ezekiel Asuquo for third place, clocking 47.40s to 47.46s.
Sonny also improved on her PB from the previous day, winning the women’s U-20 final in 53.91s. Victoria Olaniyi finished second in 54.97s, with Success Okoro completing the podium in 55.39s.
Team MTN’s Benjamin Magaji clinched gold in the Senior Men’s 400m, improving his PB from the heats to 48.04s. Bright Benson (48.56s) and Emmanuel Baraburu (48.63s) took silver and bronze, respectively.

In the women’s race, Miracle Uwem clocked 55.05s for the win, finishing ahead of Rita Munachiso (55.34s) and Rhoda Adisa (55.58s).
Two-time Olympian Emmanuel Ojeli posted the fastest time in the Senior Men’s 200m heats, running a Nigerian outdoor leading mark of 20.96s. Sophia Efetobore clocked a PB of 23.92s to top the women’s qualifiers.
David Akhalu led the Junior Men’s 200m heats with a PB of 21.43s, while Success Oyibu ran 24.03s in the women’s junior category.
Chidera Ezeakor won the Senior Men’s 100m in 10.60s, narrowly beating Jeremiah Nathaniel (10.63s) and Daje Lucky (10.66s).

Efetobore continued her strong form, adding the Senior Women’s 100m title with a winning time of 11.52s. Faith Osamuyi (11.62s) and Odumosu Kate (11.71s) rounded out the podium.
In the Junior Men’s 100m, John Caleb took gold in 10.63s, followed by Abdulrahman Jimoh (10.84s) and Wilfred Jimoh (10.86s).
Cynthia Chioma edged Success Oyibu in a tight Junior Women’s 100m final, winning in 11.84s. Oyibu clocked 11.86s, while Mmesoma Thankgod Ezeobi took bronze.
Elom Kosi dominated the U-14 Boys’ 100m in 13.05s, finishing ahead of David Oliseluka and Nmor Santo.

In the girls’ race, Ebimoboere Christopher broke down in tears after winning gold in a PB of 12.95s. Ella Udumubrai and Oluwatimileyin Fatore followed in second and third.
Ibukun Daramola won the Senior Men’s Long Jump with a 7.66m leap, while Martins Ugwu (7.30m) and Jeffrey Miracle (7.24m) completed the podium. Gowon Oghenerunor took the Junior title in 7.20m, ahead of Anthony Lucky (7.02m) and Blessed Longlife (6.58m).
In the women’s event, Mary Adeiran claimed gold with a 5.97m jump, while Otoaruoh Mary (5.27m) and Glory Jarrett (5.22m) took silver and bronze.
Francess Ajagbawa cleared 1.65m to win the Junior Women’s High Jump, followed by Ayuba Orahaci (1.62m) and Juliana Temitope (1.53m).
Emmanuella Kane threw a PB of 40.31m to win gold in the Senior Women’s Discus, narrowly beating Ruqqayah Kemi Mustapha, who recorded a season-best of 40.30m.
