Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare opened his Premier League account on Saturday, but his late strike was not enough to prevent Wolverhampton Wanderers from slipping to a 2-1 defeat against Arsenal, Bold Sports reports.
The Nigerian international was introduced in the 69th minute and made an immediate impact, scoring in the 90th minute to draw Wolves level before a dramatic late setback.
Arsenal had gone ahead shortly after the hour mark when Bukayo Saka’s dangerous delivery hit goalkeeper Sam Johnstone and went into the net for an own goal. Saka was again instrumental in the crucial moment, as his cross forced Yerson Mosquera into conceding another own goal deep into stoppage time.
The win takes Arsenal to 36 points, extending their lead over second-placed Manchester City to five points. Wolves, on the other hand, remain bottom of the table with just two points from 16 matches.
Arsenal will be away to Everton in their next league outing on Saturday, while Wolves will continue their search for a first Premier League victory of the season when they face Brentford on the same day.
Arokodare’s goal ended his Premier League drought, with the 25-year-old now on three goals across all competitions this season.
