Paul Onuachu returned to action as Trabzonspor defeated Gaziantep FK 2–0 at Papara Park on Sunday, giving the Nigerian striker a winning comeback after his injury absence, Bold sports reports.

Onuachu started the Super Lig encounter and played for more than an hour before Umut Nayir replaced him.

His return followed missed league matches against Besiktas and Caykur Rizespor. With Franculino Dju unavailable, Trabzonspor restored the Nigerian to their attack.

Onuachu had opportunities to mark his comeback with a goal. He sent an early effort off target from an Ernest Muci delivery and later headed wide from a cross on the left.

Trabzonspor eventually broke through in first-half stoppage time. Muci helped redirect a corner into the path of Stefan Savic, whose finish gave the hosts the lead.

Muci then scored in the 61st minute to make it 2–0, shortly before Onuachu’s withdrawal.

Andre Onana also played an important role, denying Gaziantep opportunities as Trabzonspor protected their clean sheet.

The match featured further Nigerian involvement, with Chibuike Nwaiwu starting in Trabzonspor’s defence and Victor Gidado named in Gaziantep’s starting side.

For Onuachu, the main development was his return to competitive action. His involvement supplied a firmer indication of his availability than the earlier reports anticipating a comeback.

Trabzonspor finished the match with three points and moved to 22 points in their pursuit of the leading teams. Their next league assignment is away to Alanyaspor.
