Samuel Chukwueze made an impressive start to the 2026/27 season, providing an assist and winning the Player of the Match award as AC Milan secured a 2-1 victory over Torino in their Serie A opener on Sunday.

The Super Eagles winger carried his strong pre-season form into competitive action after starring in Milan’s friendly against Manchester United, where he scored once and provided two assists. His latest display helped the Rossoneri begin the new campaign with three points.

Milan dominated possession and controlled proceedings from the opening whistle but struggled to find a breakthrough, with both sides going into the half-time break level at 0-0.

The visitors eventually made the difference after making two changes in the 57th minute, with Adrien Rabiot and Luka Modric introduced for Ardon Jashari and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The substitutions immediately paid off as Rabiot provided the assist for the opening goal eight minutes after coming on. The French midfielder delivered a precise cross to the back post, where Alphadjo Cissè met the ball with an inch-perfect half-volley to put Milan ahead.

Rabiot then doubled Milan’s advantage three minutes later, this time benefiting from Chukwueze’s creativity. The Nigerian winger whipped a superb cross towards the far post, allowing Rabiot to finish brilliantly and make it 2-0.

Torino pulled one back through substitute Ché Adams in stoppage time, setting up a nervy finale, but Milan held on to claim all three points and give new head coach Ruben Amorim a winning start.

Chukwueze was a constant threat from his right wing-back position, creating four chances, the most by any player in the match, while also recording the joint-most touches in the opposition box with nine.

The performance marks another positive step for the 27-year-old, who spent last season on loan at Fulham where he scored three goals and provided four assists in 25 appearances across all competitions.

Chukwueze will look to maintain his impressive form when AC Milan host Venezia on Friday, August 28, while Torino will hope to bounce back against Sassuolo on Saturday.
