Newly promoted Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Sporting Lagos have announced the signing of experienced attacking midfielder Haruna Hadi ahead of the 2026/27 season for an undisclosed fee, Bold Sports reports.

Hadi was one of the most sought-after players in the domestic transfer market, attracting interest from several NPFL clubs, including Shooting Stars and Barau FC. However, the CHAN Eagles midfielder opted to join the Lagos-based club after being convinced by Sporting Lagos’ long-term project.

The club confirmed the signing in a statement released on Wednesday. “We are delighted to announce the signing of Haruna Hadi,” the club said.

Hadi arrives after spending five successful seasons with Remo Stars, where he made 97 appearances across all competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing 13 assists.

The midfielder played a pivotal role in Remo Stars’ historic NPFL title-winning campaign, with his outstanding performances earning him a place in Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), which was held across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

He is among several high-profile and experienced players departing Remo Stars following the club’s relegation from the top flight, just a season after winning the NPFL title and competing in the CAF Champions League.

Sporting Lagos will be hoping Hadi’s wealth of experience in the Nigerian top flight will strengthen their squad as they prepare for life back in the NPFL. The club will also be aiming to emulate fellow Lagos-based side Ikorodu City, who have established themselves as a competitive force by finishing in the top half of the league in each of their first two seasons in the top flight.
