Henry Onyekuru’s time at Gençlerbirliği could be coming to an end, with sports journalist Buchi Laba reporting that the Nigerian forward and the Turkish club have reached a mutual agreement to terminate his contract, just a year after his arrival from Al-Fahya.
According to Buchi, the move is being driven by financial constraints, with Gençlerbirliği informing Onyekuru that they would be unable to meet his wage demands for the upcoming season. As part of the reported settlement, the club has agreed to pay him a portion of his remaining contract.
Per the report, the 29-year-old already has interest from clubs in both Turkey and Saudi Arabia, though he is said to be in no rush to make a decision and will take his time weighing up his next move.

Should the exit be confirmed, it would cap off a disappointing spell in Ankara. Onyekuru featured 19 times for Gençlerbirliği during the 2025/26 season but failed to register a single goal or assist, a return that fell well short of expectations for a player of his experience.
The barren spell would extend a troubling pattern for the forward, marking a second consecutive season without a goal. His last competitive goal came in March 2024, when he opened the scoring in Al-Fahya’s 1-1 draw with Al Riyadh.
Neither Gençlerbirliği nor Onyekuru have officially confirmed the reported termination as of yet.
