Nottingham Forest are set to begin a new chapter after reaching an agreement to appoint Oliver Glasner as their new head coach following the departure of Vítor Pereira. The Austrian will take charge at the City Ground ahead of the 2026/27 season.
For Super Eagles stars Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi, the appointment means they will now work under one of Europe’s most accomplished coaches in recent years.
Awoniyi enjoyed one of his most productive spells under Pereira despite battling injuries. The Nigerian striker contributed five goal involvements in nine appearances during the Portuguese manager’s time in charge.

Meanwhile, Aina remained a trusted figure in the side, making 12 starts and continuing to establish himself as one of Forest’s most dependable defenders. Their performances could make both players key figures in Glasner’s plans next season.
Glasner arrives with an outstanding European résumé. He guided Eintracht Frankfurt to the UEFA Europa League title in 2022 before leading Crystal Palace to their first major trophy by winning the UEFA Conference League four years later. His success in knockout competitions has earned him a reputation as one of Europe’s leading tactical managers.

Pereira took charge of Nottingham Forest in February and successfully steered the club to Premier League safety, finishing 16th while also reaching the Europa League semi-finals.
His record of eight wins, six draws and six defeats in 20 matches reflected a solid turnaround after a difficult campaign. However, Forest exercised a contractual break clause before the June deadline, reportedly notifying the Portuguese coach by email just minutes before the clause expired.

Glasner’s arrival signals a new era at Nottingham Forest after the end of Vítor Pereira’s brief tenure. With a proven track record of delivering success in European competitions, the Austrian will be expected to build on the club’s recent progress.
His appointment also presents a fresh opportunity for Super Eagles duo Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi to cement their places under a manager renowned for developing competitive, well-organised teams.
