Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has shared his thoughts ahead of Coventry City’s crucial Championship clash against Middlesbrough, with the league’s top two set to go head-to-head at the CBS Arena on Monday.
Coventry slipped to second in the standings following a frustrating goalless draw against Oxford United in their last outing, paving the way for Middlesbrough to seize top spot days later with a 2–1 victory over Sheffield United.
Although Onyeka was unable to feature against Oxford, the Nigerian international could be in line to make his debut on Monday after completing a January loan move from Brentford to the Championship side.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Onyeka expressed satisfaction with his early adaptation to the squad, highlighting the diverse qualities within the team and his focus on settling in quickly with his new teammates.

“It’s been good. I think we are all different type of players, we bring different qualities to the team. For me, it’s just about getting in and settling in with the boys,” the 28-year-old said.
Onyeka also underlined the value of his experience, stressing that he aims to inject the intensity and standards he developed at Brentford into training at Coventry.
“What I bring into the team is my experience and my intensity from playing with Brentford. I have to try and bring that intensity into training.”
On the huge clash against the current league leaders, the Nigerian International said: “It’s a big game. Middlesbrough are good, they won their last game and they’re top of the league. For us, we are doing everything we can to win. We’re focusing on ourselves.”
“We know it’s going to be a very intense game so we’re training well to make sure we’re ready for the game,” he added.

Onyeka expressed gratitude for the reception he received during the Oxford clash, admitting he was delighted to see more than 30,000 supporters in attendance and appreciative of the warm welcome.
The midfielder added that he is eager to give his all for the club and repay the fans with his performances: “I was quite pleased because it was over 30,000 people at the stadium and the warm welcome is something that I appreciate. I appreciate the fans and I can’t wait to give myself and do everything for this club and the fans.”
Coventry head coach Frank Lampard also confirmed during his press conference that Onyeka is fit and available for the Middlesbrough clash, having returned to the squad after being granted a few days off for the birth of his child.
“He’s ready to go. He had a couple of days off, had the baby on Sunday, Monday.. so he’s training with us and ready. It’s good to have a little bit of training for him before we start to look at games going forward,” he said.
