Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has insisted that the Super Eagles must raise their level at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, even after opening their campaign with a 2–1 victory over Tanzania in Morocco.
While the result delivered maximum points, the Franco-Malian tactician was far from satisfied with the team’s overall performance, highlighting lapses that could prove costly as the tournament progresses. Chelle noted that Nigeria showed promise early on but struggled to maintain intensity and control in the second half.
“We have to analyse this win because we did a lot of good things in the first half to create scoring opportunities,” Chelle said. “We had many chances, but in the second half we allowed Tanzania back into the game.”

The coach stressed that success at AFCON depends on consistent improvement rather than isolated results. “Of course, we are happy with the three points, but in this tournament, the most important thing is to get better with every game. After our analysis, we have to continue to improve,” he added.
Looking ahead to Nigeria’s next fixture, Chelle identified areas requiring urgent attention. “Tunisia are a big team. We must improve defensively, and we need more movement both on and off the ball. I congratulate my players for the win, but there is still a lot of work to do,” he said.
