…Chukwueze’s goal contributions hit five in seven games
Samuel Chukwueze scored his first Premier League goals for Fulham, but his heroics weren’t enough as Manchester City claimed a hard-fought 5–4 victory over the Cottagers on Tuesday night.
Fellow Super Eagles player Alex Iwobi was so also on target in the game which saw City move two points behind league leaders, Arsenal, ahead of their game against Brentford on Wednesday.
Despite his impressive recent performances, including a standout display in his first start of the season during Fulham’s 2–1 win away at Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend, Chukwueze was named on the bench for the clash against the champions.
City flew out of the blocks, with Erling Haaland, Tijani Reijnders, and Phil Foden all finding the net within the first 44 minutes. Emile Smith Rowe pulled one back for Fulham on the stroke of halftime, but the visitors still held a comfortable 3–1 lead at the break.
Foden made it 4–1 just three minutes into the second half, and Sander Berge’s own goal in the 54th minute seemed to condemn Fulham to another heavy defeat against title-chasing City.

But the game suddenly came alive in the 57th minute when Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi reduced the deficit. Moments later, second-half substitute Samuel Chukwueze sparked a dramatic turnaround with a quickfire brace in the 72nd and 78th minutes, throwing the match wide open.
With their previously comfortable lead evaporating, City were forced to dig deep defensively to avoid a late collapse, ultimately holding on for a tense 5–4 win.
Fulham manager Marco Silva praised his team’s resilience and mentality despite the defeat, insisting their spirited response deserved more – perhaps even an equaliser.
“If you go in that direction, about the character and the personality of the team, of course, what they showed was impressive,” Silva said.

“But the reaction was unbelievable – from the boys, from our team, from the fans too. And looking at that reaction, we probably deserved that fifth goal to equalise the game. Unfortunately, we didn’t.
“Many positives from the game, definitely. The main one is that connection with the fans at the end – it really means something. We didn’t take points from this game, but that reaction, the connection, the respect they showed for a team that conceded five goals at home was impressive, and it’s going to give us many things in the future.”
