Gift Orban was denied what would have been his third goal of the season by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) as Hellas Verona fell to a 2-1 home defeat to Parma at the Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi on Sunday, courtesy of a Mateo Pellegrino brace.
Orban thought he had put the hosts ahead in the 8th minute, but his effort was correctly ruled out for offside after a VAR review.
Pellegrino opened the scoring in the 18th minute, just 10 minutes after Orban’s disallowed goal, before Giovane restored parity for Verona in the 65th minute. However, there was late drama as Pellegrino lifted a composed left-footed lob over the goalkeeper to seal all three points for Parma.

The defeat is Verona’s sixth of the season. They remain rooted to the bottom of the Serie A table and, along with Fiorentina, are still without a win, having recorded six losses and six draws.
Orban, who joined the Italian side on loan from Bundesliga club Hoffenheim in the summer, has scored only two goals in 10 Serie A appearances.
