Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface will be eager to end his goal drought when Werder Bremen welcome Wolfsburg to the Weserstadion on Friday night.

The Nigeria international, who joined Die Werderaner on loan from Bundesliga rivals Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, is yet to find the back of the net after seven appearances. Although he started the season coming off the bench in his first five games, Boniface has earned a place in the starting lineup in Bremen’s last two outings.

It has been a testing start for the 24-year-old, who is known for his explosive early-season form. Boniface has attributed his slow start to adjusting to a new environment but insists he is gradually finding his rhythm.

“I’m new to the club, I’m new to this place, and I’m just getting used to my new environment,” Boniface said during a press conference. “Sometimes in football, you join a new club and things click immediately, but sometimes they don’t.

“People are focused on the fact that I haven’t scored, but if you watch the games, you can see my contributions, especially against Union Berlin. I didn’t score or get an assist, but you can see what I bring to the team.”

Boniface added that he remains unfazed by the criticism surrounding his barren spell, expressing confidence that his breakthrough is near.

“When you don’t score, people talk,” he said. “This is my slowest start to a season since moving to Germany, going more than five games without scoring. But I know I’m a strong person, and I’ll bounce back.”

Boniface hopes tonight marks the turning point as he searches for his first goal in Bremen colours. The Bundesliga side will also be aiming to extend its unbeaten run in the league to five matches.
