Slovenian side NK Celje have announced the signing of Super Eagles midfielder Papa Daniel Mustapha on a three-year deal from Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club Niger Tornadoes.
The club, in a statement on their website, said, “Celje Football Club announces that it has reached an agreement with the Nigerian Premier League club Niger Tornadoes for the transfer of defensive midfielder Papa Daniel. The 23-year-old Nigerian international has signed a contract with NK Celje until 30.6.2028.”
The club confirmed the transfer on Wednesday, bringing an end to weeks of speculation following the 23-year-old’s absence from the home-based Super Eagles camp preparing for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda next month.

A highly skilled and combative left-footed midfielder, Mustapha is expected to link up with his new teammates ahead of the 2025/26 season. However, he is unlikely to feature in Celje’s UEFA Europa League second-round qualifying clash against AEK Larnaca on Thursday at Stadion Z’dežele.
Mustapha began his career with Fackson Nextpro Football Academy before securing a move to Turkish side Adanaspor. After one season abroad, he returned to Nigeria, joining Sporting Supreme FC, where he quickly made a name for himself.
His performances earned him a transfer to Niger Tornadoes, where he became a key figure and a regular in the home-based Eagles setup, eventually earning a call-up to the senior national team.
