Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has expressed his excitement following his return to the National Team for the Unity Cup Tournament in London.

Musa, who has not been in the Super Eagles’ squad since the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast shared his joy and readiness to represent Nigeria once again.

“For me I’m always happy whenever I get a call up so I’m very happy to be back,” he said.

“It has been a long time but I don’t think there’s any difference so we’ll just wait and see what happens on the day of the game.”

The veteran forward who currently plays for Kano Pillars in the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) is among 10 home-based players selected by head coach Eric Chelle for the Unity Cup Tournament — a move that Musa has welcomed with enthusiasm.

“As you can see, there are a lot of home-based players in the team. The coach watched a lot of games of the Nigerian League so I feel very happy for them. Let’s see what can happen in the game.”

Nigeria’s recent performances, especially in the World Cup Qualifiers, have sparked concerns over the team’s ability to compete and win trophies.

The Super Eagles are now at risk of missing out on back-to-back World Cups, following a disappointing draw against Zimbabwe in their previous qualification game — a result that leaves them fourth in the group with just seven points.

However, Musa called on fans to keep backing the team, emphasising that their unwavering support is crucial for the Super Eagles to regain form, return to winning ways, and make the nation proud once again.

“We know that a lot of Nigerians are very disappointed in the Super Eagles but I’ll always commend them to keep on supporting us because that’s what we need right now, their support will make a very big impact for us.”

The Super Eagles commenced their training in London yesterday ahead of their clash against Ghana in a highly-anticipated West African derby in the second semifinal of the Unity Cup, scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The winner of this encounter will advance to the final to face off against either Jamaica or Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday, May 31, with the 2025 Unity Cup title up for grabs.
