Super Eagles stars Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey’s Fulham have been knocked out of the FA Cup quarter-finals, losing 3-0 to their London neighbors, Crystal Palace at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

Both players, fresh from their return into the team after the international break made the starting lineup as head coach, Marco Silva named a strong side with the hopes of reaching an FA Cup semi-final for the first time since the 2001-2002 season.

Fulham were hopeful of progressing to the next round after their heroics in the previous round, defeating defending champions Manchester United at Old Trafford on penalties. However, they faced a challenging opposition in Crystal Palace who defeated them 2-0 the last time both sides faced in the Premier League.

The Cottagers controlled possession for most of the first half in search of an opener, however, they were undone by the brilliance of Eberechi Eze who scored a delightful goal in the 34th minute before assisting Ismaila Sarr four minutes later to double the away side’s lead.

With 15 minutes to go, Crystal Palace increased their advantage as substitutes Daichi Kamada and Edward Nketiah combined to score the third goal, putting the game out of sight and ultimately securing their passage to the FA Cup semifinals for the first time since 2016.

With Manchester City being the only traditional top six English side left in the competition, Crystal Palace will be dreaming of making history, hoping to lift the FA Cup for the first time ever.

On the other hand, with their cup campaign now over, Fulham will shift their attention to the Premier League where they still have a chance to secure European qualification. They will be hoping to bounce back from the disappointing defeat when they face another London team, Arsenal in their next league game on Tuesday.
