Josh Maja was the hero once again as West Bromwich Albion secured their second win of the season with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Stoke City at the Bet365 Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The Baggies dominated much of the first half, with Karlan Grant opening the scoring in the 18th minute. Stoke’s Lewis Koumas equalized just 11 minutes later, but Maja’s clinical finish restored West Brom’s lead and ultimately sealed the win.

Maja, who scored a hat-trick on the opening day of the season against Queens Park Rangers, has now netted four goals in three games. The Nigerian international’s impressive form will give West Brom fans hope that their side can challenge for promotion to the Premier League.

Manager Carlos Corberán praised his players’ commitment and determination after the match, highlighting their ability to overcome adversity and secure a vital victory.

“I have to give a lot of credit to the players because they’ve shown a lot of commitment with the game, they have played with personality, they’ve suffered when we had to suffer but, in the end, they have deserved that result,” the coach said after the game.

“The team had belief and it’s really important to see this mentality in the team. After you have a big chance and the opponent equalizes, you have to have a big personality to go on and score the second goal that you need.

“There was an improvement in our behaviours in the second half and we tried to be more aggressive in the moments when we could be aggressive. We needed to put the line of five in to stop their opportunities and to protect the result.

“It’s excellent to achieve the three points in front of our traveling fans. They gave us amazing support from the first minute until the last. It’s always positive for us to show how much we want to dedicate the wins for them.

With three games played and three points earned, West Brom currently sit fourth in the Championship table. Their unbeaten start to the season suggests that they are a serious contender for promotion.
