Victor Osimhen is expected to return to competitive action for Galatasaray when they host Premier League champions Liverpool at RAMS Park in their UEFA Champions League Matchday 2 clash.
The Nigerian striker resumed training with Galatasaray on Sunday for the first time since suffering an ankle sprain on international duty with the Super Eagles during their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda on September 6 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Although Osimhen trained with the squad, reports from Turkey indicate that he is still experiencing pain and discomfort.
According to respected Turkish journalist Serhan Turk, the forward is scheduled to undergo another MRI scan today to determine the extent of the injury and design a tailored training program for him.

“Victor Osimhen has not fully recovered. Yesterday (Sunday), he trained with the team for part of the session, but he is experiencing pain,” Turk wrote on X.
“Today, he will undergo another MRI, and afterward, we will have a clear plan for his program. The player will not be taken to the Alanyaspor away match, but we expect him to be available for the Liverpool match.”
As a result, Osimhen will miss Galatasaray’s league game against Konyaspor tonight and will also sit out Friday’s trip to Alanyaspor on September 26. The decision is aimed at keeping him fit and fresh for the high-profile showdown with Liverpool.
The Turkish champions are desperate to bounce back in Europe after their humbling 5-1 defeat to German side Eintracht Frankfurt last Thursday.
Osimhen, who has scored twice in three appearances for Galatasaray this season, is seen as a crucial figure in the club’s ambition to become one of the most feared sides in the Champions League. His quick return to full fitness could be pivotal to achieving that goal.
