Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan broke no sweat as she qualified for the semi-final of the women’s 100m hurdles at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics on Wednesday.
As expected, Amusan eased to the finish line in 12.49s to win the first heat ahead of USA’s Alasha Johnson who was second in 12.61s. Jamaica’s Janeek Brown was third in 12.89s.
Amusan’s winning time was the second-fastest overall behind reigning Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn who won the second heat in 12.42s. Great Britain’s Cindy Sember was second in Camacho-Quinn’s heat in 12.72s ahead of Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska in third in 12.82s.
USA’s Masai Russel won the third heat in 12.53s, same time as Netherland’s Nadine Visser in second, while homegirl Cyrena Samba-Mayela was close in third in 12.56s.
Reigning World Champion Danille Williams won heat 4 in 12.59s, while Ireland’s Sarah Lavin was second in 12.73s and Ditaji Kambundji from Switzerland third in 12.81s.
The last heat saw Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent claim victory in 12.65s ahead of Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton in 12.71s and USA’s Grace Stark in third in 12.72s.
All athletes who failed to make it to the semi-final will come back for the repechage on Thursday for a place in Friday’s semi-final.
